====== Rules for names of concepts ======

New concepts that are formally included in the Gellish language and thus are added to the [[:gellish_english_dictionary|Gellish Dictionary]] shall have one or more names and synonyms, abbreviations or codes that satisfy the rules below.

====== 1. Uniqueness context ======
Names, abbreviations and codes need not be generally unique within Gellish. So, homonyms are allowed, provided that the names, abbreviations or codes are unique within a particular explicitly specified //language community// such as a discipline within a natural language or within the language 'international'. \\
For example, the concept vessel that is defined in the context of static equipment technology as a kind of container is another concept than the concept vessel that is defined in the context of marine technology as a kind of ship. Those two concepts will have different unique identifiers in Gellish, but may have the same name. This is expressed in a Gellish expression table as follows: \\

Note: Language variants, such as American English and Australian English are defined in Gellish as supersets of (British) English. Thus only American terms that deviate from English terms need to be defined with American as language context. If no American term is available for a concept, then a computer should use the English term by default.

====== 2. Word sequence ======
Terms in multi term names are in normal word sequence of the natural language that is used. \\
For example:
  * maximum cleaning temperature (and not: cleaning temperature maximum)
====== 3. Abbreviations ======
The preferred name of a property is a name without abbreviations. There may be defined names that contain or are abbreviations that are treated as synonyms. \\
For example:
  * Name: safety integrity level
  * Abbreviation: SIL

====== 4. Lower case or upper case ======
Names of properties are in lower case unless standard language usage prescribes upper case. \\
For example, nouns in English begin with a lower case character. Nouns in German begin with an upper case character. \\
For example:
  * Name: alternating current load
  * Abbreviation: AC load

Example 2:
  * Name: milliWatt
  * Abbreviation: mW

Example 3:
  * Name:megaWatt
  * Abbreviation: MW

Note: The abbreviations of units of measure are defined in the language 'international'. Thus they don't need to be redefined in every Gellish language variant.

====== 5. Types ======
A type of thing has a name that consists of the phrase ‘type of’ followed by the name of a kind of thing. \\
Each type of thing has at least one synonym that consists of the name of the kind of thing, followed by the term ‘type’. \\
For example:
  * Name: type of antenna
  * Synonym: antenna type

====== 6. Properties of components ======
A specification of a kind of property of a kind of component that is specific only for that kind of component is often indicated by a name that includes the name of that kind of component in the name of the kind of intrinsic property. The name of such an intrinsic property consists of the name of the kind of property, followed by the phrase ‘of a’ (or 'of an’), followed by the name of the kind of component. \\
Each of such an intrinsic component property has at least one synonym that consists of the name of the kind of component followed by the name of the kind of property. \\
For example:
  * Name: diameter of a displacer
  * Synonym: displacer diameter

====== 7. Material of construction ======
A specification of a material from which a component is made that is specific only for that kind of component is often indicated by a name that includes the name of that kind of component in the name of the kind of intrinsic property. The name of such a kind of intrinsic property consists of the phrase ‘material of construction of a’, followed by the name of the kind of component. \\
Each of such a component material has at least one synonym that consists of the name of the kind of component followed by the term ‘material’. \\
It may have another synonym that consists of the phrase ‘material of’, followed by the name of the kind of component. \\
For example:
  * Name: material of construction of a probe
  * Synonym: probe material
  * Synonym: material of probe

Example 2:
  * Name: material of construction of a thermowell coating
  * Synonym: thermowell coating material
  * Synonym: material of thermowell coating

Note: thermowell coating may also have a synonym. For example: coating of a thermowell.
